The price shown above is the one we last read from the seller. During the sale it is usually higher than what you will actually pay, so check the figure on AliExpress rather than ours.

Discount codes are issued per country and most of September’s do not apply in the US, UK, Canada or the EU. Whatever code you qualify for appears at the AliExpress checkout.

Treat the price as a guide, not a quote. AliExpress sellers change prices through the day — we have watched items here move by more than 20% between one morning and the same evening — and the figure above is for one option, so a different size or colour usually costs something different again. App-only deals and personal coupons move it again at checkout. Always read the price on AliExpress before you buy. Figures come from the AliExpress listing, checked 14 hours ago. The feedback score is the seller’s, not a rating by us — we have not tested this product.

Most dogs that hate having their nails done were once cut into the quick, and they remember it. A grinder removes nail a fraction at a time, so you can stop the moment the surface changes, and it leaves a smooth edge instead of the sharp corner clippers create. For a dog with a bad history it is often the only route back to manageable nails.

Key Benefits

  • Removes nail gradually, so overshooting the quick is far less likely
  • Leaves a smooth edge rather than a sharp clipped corner
  • Works well on thick or brittle nails that split under clippers
  • USB rechargeable, with no cable to manage mid-session
  • Quieter models are tolerated by dogs that panic at clippers
  • Guard ports control how much nail is exposed

Best For

  • Dogs that have been quicked and now fear clippers
  • Thick or brittle nails
  • Dark nails where the quick cannot be seen
  • Owners nervous about cutting too far
  • Finishing off after clipping

How It Works

Introduce it switched off first, then running near the dog without touching, over several days. When you start, take one nail at a time in short bursts of two or three seconds, letting the nail cool between. Grind from underneath and stop as soon as you see a chalky circle appear in the centre — that is the quick approaching.

Pros and Cons

Pros: Much safer than clippers on dark nails, leaves no sharp edge, salvages nail sessions with fearful dogs, and recharges over USB.

Cons: It is slow compared with clippers, and both the vibration and the noise put some dogs off entirely. Grinding too long in one spot heats the nail, which hurts, and long fur can catch in the head so it must be held back.

Things to Consider

  • Introduce it over several days rather than using it immediately
  • Short bursts only; continuous grinding heats the nail
  • Hold long fur clear of the rotating head
  • Stop when a chalky circle appears in the nail centre
  • Keep styptic powder to hand in case of bleeding
  • Prices, availability and shipping times are set by the AliExpress seller and can change
