Full-size blankets are heavy and unwieldy for a puppy, which is why they end up sleeping next to one rather than under it. This throw is scaled down so a small dog can actually drag it, bunch it and nest in it, which is what most of them want to do with a blanket.
Key Benefits
- Sized so small dogs and puppies can move it themselves
- Flannel is warm without being heavy
- Ideal for crate lining and puppy pens
- Takes on a familiar scent that settles new puppies
- Machine washable and fast drying
- Cheap enough to keep several for a new puppy
Best For
- Puppies settling into a new home
- Toy and small breeds
- Crate and pen lining
- Car journeys
- Dogs that nest and bunch their bedding
How It Works
Give it to a new puppy early so it picks up the scent of home, then take it with you to the vet, the car or anywhere unfamiliar. That carried scent does more to settle a nervous puppy than the warmth does. Wash it with the rest of the dog bedding.
Pros and Cons
Pros: Correctly sized for small dogs, warm without being heavy, washes easily, and genuinely useful for settling a puppy in new places.
Cons: It is small, so it is no use for a medium or large dog, and flannel pills after repeated washing. Puppies that chew bedding will shred it, and loose threads are a swallowing risk.
Things to Consider
- Too small for medium and large breeds
- Flannel pills and thins after repeated washing
- Not suitable for puppies that chew and swallow fabric
